Modified Reynolds Equation for Steady Flow Through a Curved Pipe

چکیده
Abstract A Reynolds equation governing the steady flow of a fluid through curvilinear, narrow tube, with its derivation from Navier–Stokes equations asymptotic methods is presented. The channel considered may have rather large curvature and torsion. Approximations velocity pressure inside are constructed by artificially imposing appropriate boundary conditions at inlet outlet. justification for approximations provided along comparison simpler case.

Turbulent pipe flow at extreme Reynolds numbers.
Both the inherent intractability and complex beauty of turbulence reside in its large range of physical and temporal scales. This range of scales is captured by the Reynolds number, which in nature and in many engineering applications can be as large as 10(5)-10(6). Here, we report turbulence measurements over an unprecedented range of Reynolds numbers using a unique combination of a high-press...
متن کاملStability of steady flow through an axially corrugated pipe
The linear stability of steady flow in pipes with circular cross-section and sinusoidal axial variation in diameter is studied by finding global eigenmodes with axial wavelength commensurate with that of the wall corrugation, chosen to be equal to one pipe mean radius. The maximum peak-to-peak height of corrugation considered is approximately 8% of the mean diameter. At low corrugation amplitud...

A Fourier–Chebyshev Petrov–Galerkin spectral method is described for high-accuracy computation of linearized dynamics for flow in an infinite circular pipe. Our code is unusual in being based on solenoidal velocity variables and in being written in MATLAB. Systematic studies are presented of the dependence of eigenvalues, transient growth factors, and other quantities on the axial and azimuthal...
متن کاملSteady Flow in a Curved Pipe with Circular Cross-Section. Comparison of Numerical and Experimental Results
Numerical solution has been obtained of the equations of motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a curved annular conduit with circular cross-section. These equations are approximated by finite-difference equations which are of the second-order accuracy with respect to the grid sizes. The computed results are presented for the range 96 D 8000 , where D is the Dean number of the flow and for...
متن کاملSteady-State Evaluation of 'Two-Equation' RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) Turbulence Models for High-Reynolds Number Hydrodynamic Flow Simulations
This report presents an evaluation of the steady-state capability of the turbulence models available in the commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.0, for their application to the simulation of hydrofoil turbulent boundary layer separation at high-Reynolds numbers. Four widely applied two-equation RANS turbulence models were qualitatively and quantitatively assessed through comparison with high-quality ex...
